First off let me start this with a huge shout out my the folks at BoyGenius. They just got some hands on time with the now infamous BlackBerry 8520 (code-named Gemini). Optical trackball? Ooooh yeah. Early impressions are definitely fitting in with what CrackBerry reported; real solid feel and the optical trackball is awesome and makes your brand new BlackBerry feel outdated. Literally. It makes what you have feel primitive. They’ve been able to confirm the handset is going to hit T-Mobile USA in Q4 of this year, obviously don’t have a price yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see this device hit one of those “BlackBerry In A Box” thingamajigs. It’s definitely aimed at the low-cost/emerging market segment, so it’s a bit odd T-Mobile USA will carry it out the gate

It’s Android time, Canadians. Mark your calendars for June 2nd as Rogers Wireless has just announced the exclusive arrival of both the HTC Dream (aka G1) and HTC Magic (aka QWERTY-less G1) next month. Details are a bit scarce for the moment but Rogers’ release promises that clarification is forthcoming. For the time being, it’s safe to say that at least the HTC Dream will become available on June 2nd. The HTC Magic will arrive in June as well though it is unclear if the actual launch date will be June 2nd or some time later in the month. In any event, Canadians waiting to get their Android on most definitely have cause for celebration!

Live images of the Motorola Rival a445, previously known as the Rush 2, and the Samsung Alias 2 have hit the interwebs giving us a sneak peek of these two upcoming Verizon Wireless handsets. The Motorola Rival a455, looking especially blurry this morning, is a colorful QWERTY side-slider that is expected to have EV-DO connectivity, GPS, Bluetooth and a flashless 1.3 or 2.0 megapixel camera. A second set of images chronicles an impromptu unboxing of the Samsung Alias 2. Presumably arriving in stores just prior to its May 11th launch date, the Alias 2 looks very much like its predecessor and reportedly has a nice solid feel and a responsive electronic ink “magic keypad”. Though not expected to generate lines flowing out of Verizon’s doors per se, the Alias 2 is definitely shaping up to be a solid phone for Big Red.

T-Mobile is delighted to announce the upcoming release of Android 1.5 with "Cupcake" coming soon to the T-Mobile G1! They plan to begin sending out the update starting the end of next week. As with previous software maintenance releases, the update will be randomly sent "over the air" to T-Mobile G1 customers. They expect everyone will have their update by the end of May.
