BlackBerry Internet Service 2.7 will be upgraded tonight in the United States, Canada and the Americas. You will not be able to access BIS accounts during the 4 hour maintenance period which runs 6/26/2009 from 11pm - 3am PST. The upgrade will bring new features and services to Blackberry devices, although this upgrade when looking at the change list looks like a precursor for new features in OS 5.0.

Everyone has their favorite Twitter application they like to use and Yatca is one of the ones I'm seeing more and more of on my Twitter stream, so many of you all out there may be interested in knowing that Yatca has indeed been updated. For those of you who have never used Yatca before, it's never too late to try it out.
While Yatca has received many bug fixes since its initial launch the developers have been listening to user demands as well and putting them into action. The updated list of features this time around is extensive. Some key things stick out, such as the ability to mark/unmark favorites within the app, geotagging of your uploaded pictures and the best feature in my opinion is the ability to "pause" tweets from going to your BlackBerry which is great when at your PC using Twitter - you'll no longer get tweets on your PC and on your BlackBerry at the same time -- awesome. I have a feeling we'll see that function pop up into other twitter clients in no time. Check out the new Yatca today if you are running 4.6+ OS.

Eighteen days after the Palm Pre was released in retail outlets across the US, Sprint users have managed to push the Palm App Catalog past the one million download mark with 1,015,038 downloads as of yesterday. This means that for the 150,000 or so Pre handsets RBC analyst Mike Abramsky estimates Sprint sold thus far (official numbers have not been released by Palm or Sprint), each has downloaded an average of about seven applications and the average application has been downloaded roughly 33,800 times. These numbers are made even more impressive when the fact that only 30 applications are currently available in the App Catalog is considered. Remember, the SDK has to this date been available only to a select few and most of the applications found within are still in beta. Let’s also not forget that countless Sprint customers are still waiting for new shipments of the Pre which, as expected, has proven difficult to keep in stock. If all of Sprint and Palm’s ducks were in a row prior to launch (handset supply, open SDK, etc) just imagine where we’d be right now.

Now before you get too excited about this, Sprint subscribers, know that we have to throw some annoying words/phrases at it first. Rumor, possible, unconfirmed, skeptical, grain of salt and so on. Right then… According to PhoneNews.com, Sprint finally has Android positioned squarely in its sights. First up, the company is allegedly in the midst of testing the HTC Hero with a planned release toward the end of this year. While we haven’t yet heard any rumblings of a CDMA version in the works, it’s certainly feasible and tough to completely count out. Secondly, the blog reports that Sprint is currently testing an Android-powered handset from Samsung as well — the key here being this little guy reportedly sports WiMAX and CDMA.

There’s nothing extraordinarily fancy about Sony Ericsson’s newly announced T715, but it should handle everything you could possibly throw at it — as long as you don’t need a QWERTY keyboard or a proper smartphone. The new slider features a 2.2-inch QVGA screen that SE claims will be visible in direct sunlight (pretty nifty if it actually works). Slap on a capable 3.2 megapixel shooter, Google Maps, AccuWeather and Microsoft Exchange support and you have yourself the winner of just-above-averageness. Best of all, it will be available in European and American versions with 3G support for both.

We typically shy away from wild rumors such as the one you’re about to read. Considering the information has been relayed by an individual with a pretty good track record with this sort of thing however, we’re going to report on it. With an extra spoonful of caution, that is. Word on the web is that Rogers and Fido don’t quite have the iPhone exclusivity deal in place we all thought they did. Apparently TELUS, currently a CDMA-only carrier, will be picking up the so called 3GS in October once it gets its upcoming HSPA network up and running. Just to be clear, we have yet to see any evidence to support this claim at all, meaning that for now it’s just one of those rumors that seems a bit too convenient. We’re not going to count it out just yet either though — it would certainly be a hell of a way for TELUS to get that shiny new HSPA network on the map.
