AT&T Bold Device Software Updated

Okay, so it may not be a huge update, but it's an "official" update at the least. It looks like AT&T users are receiving emails that the device software for the BlackBerry Bold has been updated. The apps are at version 4.6.0.167 (up from .162) and the platform has been updated from .157 to .217. If you're a Bold user you can grab the software from http://na.blackberry.com/eng/update/ (you'll need to use Internet Explorer). If you "upgrade" leave us a comment below with your findings.

Capture It” Grabs BlackBerry Screen Shots on Device

A really neat new app from TechMogul Industries is Capture It 1.0, used for grabbing a screenshot of your BlackBerry screen from the device itself.

Most all screencap applications were desktop based and required a USB connection to the device itself. Capture It 1.0 removes those chains and frees the user up to make a quit screencap from the device. More after the jump.

SMS Settings for Windows Mobile

There are a few apps that do the same as this floating around, but most have requirements like .Net CF 3.5 or similar.
What it does:
Configures SMS Sent notification, SMS delivery receipts, Threaded SMS.

It can be skinned (if you know what you're doing with res hacker) by editing l3v5yExtendedFunctionsResources.dll that should reside in \Windows.

Install it, and restart your device. SMS Settings can be found under Start->Settings->System tab.

Tested on my Diamond and Prophet, and in the WM5 emulators, so should work on all WM5+ Pocket PC devices.

Note, SMS threading will only work on WM6.1 ROMs, since it's OS dependant...

Chinese forum leaks possible next generation iPhone details, hints at Internet tablet

Patapon200, a member of the Chinese forum weiphone, has released a screenshot and some specifications reportedly detailing the next generation iPhone. Expected to be announced at the upcoming WWDC, the new iPhone is rumored to have:

600MHz CPU (up from 400MHz) 256MB RAM (up from 128MB) Digital Compass and FM 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus 32GB size Model #: MB717LL No major changes in battery, screen and external casing. The poster also hinted at the existence of a 9.7-inch wide touchscreen-sporting Apple tablet that is supposedly in pre-production now with the internal codename K48. Just for the record, though Chinese forums have been a source of accurate leaked information in the past, the poster in this case has no such track record.

Windows Marketplace for Mobile opens its doors, and windows, to devs… again

All right file in, ever-patient Windows Mobile developers. If you’ve managed to stick with ole’ faithful this long without jumping ship to a trendier, flashier platform, the light at the end of the tunnel is finally coming into focus. Maybe. Microsoft has now officially opened its doors for Windows Marketplace for Mobile developer registration, again. We’re a bit confused here because as far as we know, registration has been open since the beginning of the month. Maybe MS means international devs can now register? Perhaps, but several developers outside the States are still reporting difficulties with the registration process. Whatever the case may be, if you’re a WinMo dev who hasn’t jumped on board yet you should. Now the only thing left is to give this bad boy a nickname. Windows Marketplace for Mobile is quite the mouth full and doesn’t have nearly the same flow as App Store or App World. So what do you guys think we should call it? WMM? WinMaMo? MarkFoMob? Hmm. We’ll keep working on this and get back to you.

Changes afoot at T-Mobile; smartphones to require data plans, family messaging rate hike

There has been quite a bit of movement recently as far as T-Mobile’s plans are concerned and if you haven’t been keeping your eye on the ball, you probably missed something. For the most part, T-Mo has added plans and options that are pretty favorable for subscribers but word just came in regarding a few more upcoming changes some might not be happy about. The first concerns smartphone users: We know that all you out there obviously have data plans but there are plenty of people who enjoy the enhanced functionality of a smartphone who haven’t yet embraced mobile data services. Unfortunately, those people are in for a bit of a disappointment — some time in June T-Mobile will begin requiring that all smartphones (new activations / upgrades) have a data plan. This new requirement will not apply to the BlackBerry Pearl, BlackBerry Pearl Flip, Samsung Behold or Samsung Memoir. Next up, messaging addicts: Also beginning some time in June, T-Mobile’s Unlimited Domestic Messages for Families will jump from $19.95 per month to $24.99 per month. It’s still a pretty sweet deal of course, just not quite as sweet as it used to be.
