Sprint Palm Pre Activation Walk Through

Over at InsideSprintNow, a full set of instructions for the Palm Pre activation have been posted including a set of Screen shots from set up procedure. lt is worth noting the Palm Profile mentioned in the article. Hit the Jump for more Details...

What Is a Palm Profile? A Palm profile connects the Palm Pre to Palm to get automatic updates, back up data, and more. These features are in addition to the ones offered to you by Sprint. Setting up a Palm profile is different from setting up email on your phone. Tap Create New Profile. If you tap Tell Me More, tap Close then Create New Profile.

Also noted is the Palm Pre can't be programmed manually. It must be set up via the Hands-Free activation:

Almost all the phones can now be programmed via Hands-Free or One Touch Activation, and the Palm Pre is no exception. The one exception to the Palm Pre is that it can’t be programmed manually, so Hands-Free activation is required.

Roundup: BlackBerry Twitter Clients Part Deux

A few months back we brought you the BlackBerry Twitter Client Roundup and looked at the pros and cons of big gunners Twitterberry and Socialscope, as well as the lesser-known Twibble, BlackBird and BBTweet. There have been some awesome additions to the Twitter mashup, so it's about time we take a look at ÜberTwitter, TweetGenius and YATCA as well as the Twitter features of the Viigo Alpha and new additions to Socialscope. Hit the Jump for more Details...

ÜberTwitter

ÜberTwitter has raged onto the scene and has built a huge fan base in a short time. The client boasts numerous options such as their own image servers (instead of using TwitPic), ability to update Google Talk status and location updates (from tower triangulation). It seems to be a welcome addition to all the users who were bored with Twitterberry or Socialscope. Currently available as "ÜberTwitter Beta 2", it is free to download and updates seem to be rolling out at a good rate based on user feeback. Visit http://www.ÜberTwitter.com from your device to download.

YATCA

At the moment YATCA seems to be a big of a dark horse. I haven't come across many people that use it, but the ones I have found swear by it). YATCA isn't the standard client as it integrates with your message inbox and gives you a different type of functionality. I can see how this would be handy for some, but for others it might just get in the way. You can set the options for what you see in the message list - replies, public timeline, updates etc. There is still some needed functionality like better ability to check friends timelines. YATCA has many of the standard features of the other clients so its still close in the race. It is currently available as YATCA 1.6.1 (we checked out the last update at YATCA v. 1.3.6). You can get YATCA OTA here.

TweetGenius

The coup de gras of the Twitter Client game, TweetGenius has broken the mold. Becoming the first premium Twitter Client, it has stepped up the expecations for those that follow. It is available at an introductory price of $4.99 (regularly $9.99) and is well worth it. From start to finish it is a polished application, and updates seem to float out every few days. It's simple three icon interface is easy to use, and it has all the options needed to tweak to your liking. You can set the update interval, alerts, etc. and the customer support and feedback is second to none. Currently only available for Bold and Curve 8900, if you are a "Twitter power user" you may want to check this one out at http://thetweetgenius.com/.

Socialscope

Socialscope has been a long running favorite of those who were able to get in on the private beta. I was lucky enough to take a look at the new features, and I'm amazed at how often the application is updated. It has had a near top to bottom overhaul since our last look, and seems better than ever. Still the only application that integrates with Facebook updates, Socialscope seems to be the choice for most users. It allows you multiple Twitter accounts, Twitpic support, profile notifications and more. Sign up for an invitation at http://www.socialscope.net.

Viigo

We had mentioned Twitter support in Viigo a bit in the past , but until now it wasn't really available to all users. With the current release of Viigo Alpha however, everyone can get in on the action. A a Twitter client, Viigo isn't nearly as powerful as the stand-alone clients, but for a casual Twitter user, it may have just the right amount of juice. The features are unfortunately fairly bared-boned, but some users may welcome the addition of Twitter into an application they already use. Check out Viigo Alpha at http://www.getviigo.com/alpha.

FriendplayIM For BlackBerry Links Yahoo, MSN, Gtalk & AIM

*UPDATE* - Site servers appear to be having an issue, this went up on numerous blogs today so that's understandable.

Ahh, I love choices. And in the area of IM applications BlackBerry devices have no shortage with as the list of IM applications continues to grow. The newest "contender" on the block is FriendplayIM and they bring some neat features to the table that I hope other instant messaging clients will take on in the BlackBerry space.

Hit the Jump for more Details...

FriendplayIM integrates all your favorite IM services but where the uniqueness of it comes in is that FriendplayIM allows you to create chat rooms as opposed to just chat windows for each individual user. Other cool features include back up services for all your buddy lists and contacts in the case your device might be lost or stolen or damaged, this information is retrievable just by reloading the application back onto your new device.

More in store for AT&T: LG HQ and Opera TV

As this never ending gobstopper of a slide deck continues to maintain its flavor and AT&T execs surely continue to steam from the ears, we’re seeing quite the range in AT&T’s upcoming lineup. Suffice it to say, there really is something for everyone. Just about every space on the spectrum is covered and perhaps no two handsets illustrate this more than these two from LG. The HQ, or Herald, is a pretty basic 20-key messaging phone with Windows Mobile 6.1, tri-band UMTS, a 2 megapixel camera, microSDHC support and a 320 x 240 display. The “Opera TV” on the other hand — despite its ridiculous codename — is a high end MediaFLO-enabled touchscreen handset with LG’s S-Class UI, dual-band UMTS, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, a 5 megapixel camera and a 3-inch WVGA display that supports 16 million colors. Both handsets are supposedly due out this Summer. Hit the jump for a slide on each phone.

Apple introducing six new versions of iPhone; iPod nano update imminent?

iPhone rumors continue to spike as expected. This time, word is that there will be a few variants to Apple’s smartphone; six, to be exact. As speculated before, it will come in two storage capacities as it always has — presumably 16GB and 32GB this time around. The rumored matte-finished iPhones will also come in three different models according to iLounge however, each supporting different radio protocols: 3G, enhanced 3G and TD-SCDMA depending on region. iLounge also reports that a new iPod nano is in the works, featuring a wider 1.5:1 screen, integrated digital camera and a smaller click wheel. No word just yet as far as storage capacity is concerned but now that the ball is rolling, expect rumors and/or speculation to start flowing pretty freely. According to the source, the new nano will drop around the same time as the new iPod Touch — sometime this Summer.

Hit the Jump for more Details...

As noted in the second image, the screen gets widened to a 1.5:1 aspect ratio, but still retains the Click Wheel of all prior nano models—in other words, no touchscreen controls this year for the iPod nano. The Click Wheel shifts down further on the new nano’s body, shrinks a little, and sees the size of the center Action button decrease as well. Finally, there’s a camera on the back in an unusual location, one which conceivably might be blocked by hands… except when the iPod nano is corner-gripped for photography. It will debut at the same time as the new iPod touch, between July and September. Our gut feeling is September.

Also of interest: we’ve been told that the next-generation iPhone will come in six versions: two storage capacities each for 3G, enhanced 3G ("3.5G/3.75G"), and mainland China versions of the phone, which will have the same size and general design of the current model, but with a less scratchable matte plastic body. Each of the three versions has been made to match the telecom systems of specific countries, so users in one country shouldn’t expect to have the option between a “slow iPhone” and “fast iPhone.” As before, you’ll get capacity options and different colors.

Rogers to soft-launch the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1a June 9th

according to an internal Rogers announcement, the Sony Xperia X1a will be soft-launching nation-wide on June 9th. Before you get all excited however, you need to know that only stores with consistently high data sales will be taking part in the soft-launch. In other words, think big cities unless you happen to live in a small town that’s filled with mobile web addicts. As for the full retail launch, Rogers is still eying June 30th with an introductory promotional 3-year price of $249.99 (to settle at $299.99) and a MSRP between $649 and $749.
