BlackBerry App World: One month later

While App World still has plenty of growing up to do, it has undoubtedly been a success thus far from both the consumer and developer perspectives. Add some solid development on RIM’s end and work a few carrier deals into the equation and you’ve got yourself a powerful tool that will have a tremendous impact on the BlackBerry application market. That said, we want to hear what you think. Does App World serve its purpose in making it easier for you to discover and obtain new applications for your handset? Does it do so easily and efficiently? Sound off in the comments section below and if you’re a developer who hasn’t yet explored the opportunities App World provides, it might be time to reexamine your strategy.

New to the scene is LogMeIn Ignition, an app for the Storm which allows Windows and Mac users to access and control their computers on the go. Just like its iPhone app cousin, LogMeIn Ignition has the ability to pan and zoom, a full-QWERTY keyboard and the ability to store login details for multiple computers along with necessary passwords with 256-bit SSL encryption. BlackBerry Curve 8300 Series Chops iPhone in Q1 Sales

When it comes to smartphones, I think a lot of us gadget junkies tend to focus on the latest and greatest and often forget that the flagship / top of the line (most expensive) devices are not always the ones everybody is buying.

Case in point: The NDP Group's Smartphone Market update report came out today proclaiming that the #1 selling smartphone in the the United States for the first quarter of 2009 was none other than the BlackBerry Curve 8300 series, chopping down the iPhone to the number two position. The top five rounded out as follows:

1. RIM BlackBerry Curve (all 83XX models)
2. Apple iPhone 3G (all models)
3. RIM BlackBerry Storm
4. RIM BlackBerry Pearl (all models, except flip)
5. T-Mobile G1

Three positions out of the top five for RIM... according to NDP, RIM's consumer smartphone market share increased 15 percent to nearly 50 percent of the smartphone market in Q1 2009 versus the prior quarter, as Apple's and Palm's share both declined 10 percent each. Keep it up RIM, keep it up.
