BlackBerry Curve 8300 Series Chops iPhone in Q1 Sales
When it comes to smartphones, I think a lot of us gadget junkies tend to focus on the latest and greatest and often forget that the flagship / top of the line (most expensive) devices are not always the ones everybody is buying.
Case in point: The NDP Group's Smartphone Market update report came out today proclaiming that the #1 selling smartphone in the the United States for the first quarter of 2009 was none other than the BlackBerry Curve 8300 series, chopping down the iPhone to the number two position. The top five rounded out as follows:
1. RIM BlackBerry Curve (all 83XX models)
2. Apple iPhone 3G (all models)
3. RIM BlackBerry Storm
4. RIM BlackBerry Pearl (all models, except flip)
5. T-Mobile G1
Three positions out of the top five for RIM... according to NDP, RIM's consumer smartphone market share increased 15 percent to nearly 50 percent of the smartphone market in Q1 2009 versus the prior quarter, as Apple's and Palm's share both declined 10 percent each. Keep it up RIM, keep it up.
