Calc-12E RPN Financial Calculator

Ever run a TVM calculation then wonder if you put the right numbers in? I still have to go to the laptop to generate a schedule for the client and so on. Ah, it was great for the 80s though.

But hey, we're nearly a decade into the 21st century. This app, Calc-12E, addresses many limitations of the 12C while preserving intact the way you operate the calculator. Absolutely, if you need step-by-step HP-12C emulation for finance class or B-school, Calc-12E works exactly like the real thing. And if you're adept already, you already know your way around.

Except.

Calc-12E keeps adding new capabilities, like allowing me to work with three cash flow scenarios at a time, and see the investment metrics all at once.

It has a visual cash flow editor that presents your cash flows as a cash flow diagram from which you can edit amounts, insert new cash flows, delete others and most importantly; check your numbers. You can still use RCL-G-Cj if you like, but look at the screenshots so see what the cash flow experience should be.

It will display numbers with up to 13 decimal places, not the 10 total digits we're used to... 13 places *after* the decimal point. Plenty of precision for bonds.

Use the stack alot? Toggle between showing the stack and TVM registers with a tap.

And for recording or sharing results you can email the results of your calculations--including a complete amortization schedule and investment comparison report. The emails are tab delimited so they import directly into your spreadsheet, are in plain text format so they are human readable, and they paste just fine into your word processor.

Undo. Only one level, but it's one more level than was coded into the original.

Oh... it's really, really fast. The 11 cash flow example on page 70 of the 12C's manual takes the 12C about 30 seconds to solve. The same problem is run by Calc-12E almost before your finger leaves the screen. Literally. I made a YouTube movie--search for CALC12E or swing by the product website.

Be aware, it is not programmable so if you love to key in your own programs do not throw out your 12C. But extras have been added: leasing, rate conversion (APR and ER), and MIRR are "pre-programmed" for you. Ok, so that doesn't completely make up for not being able to key in and debug 1 or 2 custom programs but it's something!

Obviously, features don't mean much if the underlying math isn't up to the task. Calc-12C's financial algorithms were re-written expressly for the iPhone/iPod touch and correctly solve all of the tough problems as well or better than the original. Being able to trust the answers is not a negotiable specification. Never has been.

The iPhone and iPod touch made it possible to move beyond the limitations the 80s placed on your 12C. Calc-12E removes those limitations so you again have a brilliant tool -- and your 12C can finally retire. It's earned it.
New in this version COMPARATIVE INVESTMENT ANALYSIS! Now you can work with up to three independent cash flow scenarios and compare the investment metrics (NPV, IRR, MIRR, FMRR and capital multiplication) side-by-side. The new INVEST mode speeds entry of cash flows (no more BLUE/g key), computes and shows "live" the 5 investment metrics while using the visual cash flow editor, and generates a comprehensive comparative results report for emailing. Capital multiplication is brand new and unique. To help evaluate an opportunity against a common exit strategy, it uses information generated by FMRR to produce the factor by which an initial investment will multiply by the end of the holding period. For example, 6x gain was a popular threshold for obtaining venture capital and it use to require additional effort to determine how an opportunity stacked up.

Amortization tables generated for email are produced using accepted industry standard practice.

General maintenance and minor fixes are included as well.
